In the city of Varazdin in northern Croatia, the Tomislav Spoljar Centre for Upbringing and Education hosted a Fashion Show of Inclusion and Sustainability on Thursday to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The event was organised by the city’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities.
“We started earlier this year to emphasise the importance of inclusion. The fashion show features people with disabilities as the main stars, supported by local designers, high-school students who do their hair and makeup, and elementary and kindergarten children who assist them on the runway,” said Danijela Vusic, head of the city’s Administrative Department.
She added that the entire community got involved to show that inclusion should be embraced throughout the year, not just on one day.

“I am honoured, and I believe much more work needs to be done on such inclusive projects.,” said Blazenka Roth, one of the designers whose creations appeared in the show.

For the first time in the city, models from associations and institutions that provide everyday support to people with disabilities gathered to stage an event together. The audience greeted each runway appearance with applause and smiles, and the show demonstrated how fashion can be a platform for messages of acceptance and diversity.

Adding warmth and charm were the students of the 6th Elementary School, who proudly accompanied the models on the runway.
