Several Ukrainian embassies around the world have been sent “bloody packages” containing animal eyes. Among them, reports Sky News, is the embassy in Croatia.

The same package was sent to Ukrainian embassies in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia, and Italy. They were also sent to the general consulates in Naples and Krakow.

Members of an anti-explosion unit were also called into the building of the Ukrainian consulate in Brno, Czech Republic, due to a suspicious package.

Oleg Nikolenko, spokesman of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, published the information on his Facebook page.

“After the terrorist attack in Spain on the embassies in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia, Italy and Austria, the Consulates General in Naples and Krakow, and the consulate in Brno, they received packages. The packages contained animal eyes,” Nikolenko wrote on Facebook.

He added that the embassy in Kazakhstan received a message about a bomb that was not confirmed later.

Several letter bombs were sent Spain this week – to the Spanish Prime Minister’s office, the Ukrainian embassy and an arms manufacturing company that supplies Ukraine.

Before “the bloody package” incident, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković was asked about the security of the Ukrainian embassy in Croatia.  “MUP [Ministry of Interior] takes care about security, it also cares about the security of foreign missions,” Plenković said before the public learned about the incident at the Ukrainian embassy.

A Social Democrat MP, Domagoj Hajduković, said he believes it was a terrorist act and an act of intimidation. “I have a message for those who have done this. You will not intimidate us, you will not sway us in our intention to help the Ukrainian people in the fight against the aggressors, and you will certainly not discourage the Ukrainian people in their intention to liberate their country,” Hajduković said, as reported by N1 television.

Asked why packages like this were sent to only six of the EU member states, Hajduković said that some countries, such as Poland and Croatia, had stood out in their support for Ukraine, so maybe that explained the logic. Asked also whether this incident could affect the vote in parliament on military aid to Ukraine, Hajduković said it would not. “I am convinced of that. I’m not afraid of Russian rockets, let alone eyes in a package. I and most of my colleagues will not be swayed,” said Hajduković.

But he added that it was interesting that such a package comes at this very moment, while parliament is discussing Croatian military aid to Ukraine, which should be provided within the framework of EUMAM, European Union Assistance [to] Ukraine.
